The following films will be shown at 2:30pm in the museum:

 

Monday 7/2 (2006, 99 minutes)

Open Season (PG)

Boog is a happily domesticated 900-pound grizzly bear who has his comfortable world as the star of a local nature show turned upside down when he is stranded out in the woods at the beginning of hunting season. He must join forces with a fast-talking wild mule deer named Elliot until Beth, a local forest ranger, can find them.

 

 

Monday 7/9 (1962, 106 minutes)

The Miracle Worker (NR)

Twenty-year-old Annie Sullivan (Anne Bancroft) struggles desperately to teach the blind, deaf, and mute seven-year-old Helen Keller (Patty Duke) to communicate with a world she could neither see nor hear. Patty Duke won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar® for her raging, grasping, and desperately isolated Helen. Anne Bancroft won the Best Actress Oscar® for this strenuous role.

 

 

Wednesday 7/11 (1985, 109 minutes) 

Young Sherlock Holmes (PG-13)

Victorian London comes to life in producer Steven Spielberg's fascinating speculation on what might have happened had Sherlock Holmes (Nicholas Rowe) and John Watson (Alan Cox) met while they were teenagers. The two young sleuths embark on a thrill-a-minute odyssey into a world of mystery and intrigue.

 

 

Monday 7/16 (2006, 97 minutes)

Charlotte’s Web (G)

This classic story based on the beloved book by E.B. White brings us the charming tale of Fern and her young pet pig Wilbur. Just as Wilbur learns of his impending fate on the chopping block, he meets a very special spider in the barn who begins to weave messages in her web such as “Some Pig,” “Radiant,” and “Terrific.” The messages make Wilbur famous and ultimately save his life in this story of friendship and loyalty.

 

 

Wednesday 7/18 (2007, 115 minutes)

Stomp the Yard (PG-13)

When DJ loses his younger brother his parents send him to Truth University in Georgia to give him a chance at a better life. There he finds that the rivalry in the stepping competitions between the black fraternities on campus is fierce. An amazing street dancer himself, DJ joins the competition and snags the girl of his on-campus rival at the same time.

 

 

 

 

Monday 7/23 (2006, 109 minutes)      

Happy Feet (PG)

In Antarctica, the Emperor Penguin must attract his mate with his own distinctive heart song. Mumble is a penguin who is born without the ability to sing… however he is the best tap dancer at the South Pole! Toe-tapping may ensue in this sweet animated comedy.

 

 

 

Wednesday 7/25 (2004, 90 minutes)

I am David (PG)

Based on Anne Holm’s 1952 novel “North to Freedom” this film tell the story of 12-year-old David who has lived his whole life in a concentration camp.  With help from a fellow inmate and instructions to carry a mysterious letter to Denmark, David escapes and sets off on his own in a journey across Europe that will challenge his mind and his spirit.  David must lose his inherent distrust of people to be able to finally participate in the pleasures of life and allow people to help him in his quest for freedom.

 

Monday 7/30 (2003, 143 minutes)      

Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl (PG-13)

Charming rouge pirate Jack Sparrow (Depp) loves his life of adventure on the Caribbean Sea.  All of his pleasure is brought to an end, however, when his nemesis Captain Barbossa (Rush) steals his ship. When Elizabeth Swann, the daughter of the governor, is captured by Barbossa aboard the Black Pearl Elizabeth’s childhood friend Will Turner joins with Jack to rescue the girl and get his ship back in this rollicking adventure.

 

 

Wednesday 8/1 (2007, 95 minutes)

Bridge to Terabithia (PG)

An 11-year-old boy has his life changed forever when he befriends the class outsider, a girl. Together they create an imaginary kingdom called Terabithia where they can create their own adventures with giants, trolls and other incredible creatures until tragedy ultimately befalls their friendship.

 

 

Monday 8/6 (2006, 90 minutes)

Flushed Away (PG)

In this animated feature, a pampered British rat named Roddy is flushed into the London sewers when he tries to rid the house of unwanted (and unwashed!) guest Sid. Used to the good life, he must make it on his own in the sewer world of Ratropolis run by the villainous Toad who has it in for all rodents.

 

Wednesday 8/8 (1998, 103 minutes)   

The Truman Show (PG)

 From the day he was born Truman Burbank’s (Jim Carrey) life has been aired on television for the world to see. But Truman doesn’t know it. This insurance adjuster finds his mundane life upended when he realizes his life is actually a staged TV show, in this surrealistic tale set in an idyllic Florida seaside town.

 

Funding for these films has been made possible in part by the NJ State Council of the Arts, Dept. of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural And Heritage Affairs and the Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library.
