Young Adult and Children's
Services
We collect materials
for patrons from birth through high school:
- Easy Readers and Phonics Books
- Springfield Schools' Reading List books from grades K-8
- Paperbacks and series books
- Genre fiction in Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mysteries,
Historical fiction and more
- Biographies
- Non fiction books
- A reference collection with encyclopedias, dictionaries,
biographical sources and more
We also have:
- Books on tape
- Youth magazines
- Videos and DVDs
- Music on audio cassette and CD
- CD ROM games for Mac and Windows computers
Our facilities include:
- 5 internet and printing computers for children's use,
with MS Office software
- 1 computer with games
- 2 Macintosh game computers
- The Storypit, for relaxation and impromptu puppet shows
by patrons
- A photocopier
- Several study tables
- A baby area with seating, board books and toys
The Young Adult (YA)
section of
Youth Services is located at the far end of the adult department, by the periodical
room. There you can find:
- The teen fiction collection
- Teen biographies
- Springfield School Reading lists for grades 7 and 8
- Teen Magazines
- Teen books on tape and books on CD
The Youth Services Department
is run and staffed by Kapila Sankaran and Janet Bredlau.
