The next installment in the Springfield Free Public Library’s 1969 retrospective film series will be a screening of Hello, Dolly! on Wednesday, June 5.
Due to the movie’s length, the screening will start at 6:30 rather than the library’s usual start time of 7:00 PM.
Starring Barbara Streisand and Walter Matthau, this remake of the Broadway classic features a host of musical favorites, including Before the Parade Passes By, It Only Takes a Moment, and, of course, Hello Dolly. Set in 1890, the movie follows the romantic and comical exploits of the matchmaker Dolly Levi as she sets her sights on “half a millionaire” Horace VanderGelder, the most eligible bachelor in all of Yonkers. The movie also features a cameo appearance by Louis Armstrong and dancing sequences by a young Tommy Tune.
