The library will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

The children’s room will be closed Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24 for the installation of new signs and decorative artwork. Programs for children and teens that have been scheduled for those dates will not be cancelled. Children below high school age who are not accompanied by a responsible adult cannot be accommodated in the adult services department during the two days. Parents should make other arrangements for children who are accustomed to coming to the library during after school hours.

Spring International Film Festival

The Spring International Film Festival begins at the Springfield Free Public Library on Thursday, March 14th. The library will screen Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool (2017) at 1:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Real life proves just as dramatic off screen as it does on it for two actors, the aging Hollywood superstar Gloria Grahame and her younger lover, Peter Turner. As their mismatched romance waxes and wanes over time, events conspire to keep them in each other’s lives even when it proves difficult and demanding. Directed by Pail McGuigan. Starring Jamie Bell, Annette Bening, Vanessa Redgrave and Julie Walters. 106 minutes. Rated R.Future films in this series include Bye Bye Germany (2017) on April 18 and Back to Burgundy (2017) on May 16.

Funding for the film program has been made possible by the NJ State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
