Info for Aspiring Artists

The Donald Palmer Museum of the Springfield Public Library is available for exhibitions and performances.

Standards:

The work must be of professional quality, as determined by the museum committee or their appointee, which shall set the standards and reserves the right to withdraw any inappropriate exhibition.

Submission Procedure:

Those wishing to exhibit must submit a letter and resume to the museum committee, which describes the content of the exhibit and the experience of the artist. The artist should include 10 slides or prints in a stamped self-addressed envelope, unless this material is to be picked up.

Acceptance, Scheduling:

Following receipt of a request to exhibit, the Museum Committee will advise the applicant of acceptance or rejection. Schedule dates of the exhibition will be provided at this time.

Hanging, Dismantling:

The exhibitor may be assisted in hanging and dismantling the exhibition by the museum consultant.

Sales:

Anyone wishing to purchase work on display may do so through the museum consultant and/or the library staff. A commission of 20% will be paid to the Springfield Free Public Library for work sold while on exhibit at the museum.

Publicity:

The exhibitor must provide all publicity materials to the library for distribution to the local media. A library staff member will be responsible for actual distribution under the direction of the library director.

Opening Reception:

If there is an opening reception, the exhibitor will be solely responsible for planning, serving and clean up. No alcoholic beverages may be served at the reception. The reception must be scheduled during regular library hours.

Insurance:

The museum will be responsible for insuring exhibition contents for (up to $25,000.00 against damage, fire or theft.

Signage:

The museum consultant and the library staff will be responsible for changing the signs announcing the exhibits.

Other Policy Matters:

All other museum policies will be the same as those in effect for the library meeting room.
