LIBRARY CARDS

Policy:

bulletA child who is a resident of Springfield may obtain a library card at any age from birth to 13 years. Children's applications must be signed by a parent or legal guardian who will then assume responsibility for any fines and fees incurred by that child. The adult signing for the child must be a library cardholder in good standing. Any high school student who is a resident of Springfield may apply for an adult library card.
 
bulletA child under the age of 14 may borrow videos when the parent or guardian signs the video permission statement on the back of the library card application.
 
bulletAdults must give proof of residency and identification. Students must provide a school identification card, report card or other proof of school attendance.
 
bulletTemporary Springfield residents may apply for one library card per address upon showing proper proof of residency and identification. The card is valid only for the duration of the residency of the cardholder and may not be transferred.
 
bulletNon-resident patrons who are employed or attend school in Springfield may apply for a library card. They must show proof of Springfield employment. Non-resident students may be issued a card for the period the student will be attending school in Springfield. Application must be signed by the parent who may not necessarily hold a Springfield Library card, with proof of attendance at a Springfield school given.
 
bulletNon-resident patrons may purchase a library card for $50.00 per year ($35.00 for Senior Citizens).
 
bulletCommunity organizations, schools, government entities and businesses of Springfield may apply for an organization borrower's card with the full privileges afforded a Springfield resident. A letter on official letterhead signed by the president or chief administrative officer is required. The library card shall be kept by the representative of the organization and may be used for official purposes only. The organization is financially responsible for all materials checked out on the organization borrower's card.
 
bulletPatrons from participating MURAL libraries including the Summit Public Library may apply for a Springfield library card for a term of one year.
