Next Chapter Book Club
Tuesday, April 23, 2019, 01:00pm - 02:00pm

Thanks to a generous donation from the Springfield chapter of Rotary International, the Springfield Free Public Library has become an affiliate of “Next Chapter Book Club” for the purpose of establishing a book club at the library for adults with developmental disabilities.

Debra Gutman, the volunteer facilitator of the book club, has more than twenty years of teaching experience and is recently retired as a teacher of children with special needs at the Thelma L. Sandmeier Elementary School in Springfield.

Participation is free and open both to residents of Springfield as well as to people who reside in other communities. People interested in participating will need to come to the library in advance of the first meeting in order to preregister. Participants will also need to provide their own transportation to and from the library. The club is for readers of all levels.

The Next Chapter Book Club is an international organization with affiliates in North America and Europe that offers a unique community-based book club program for adolescents and adults with Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is currently the largest community based book club program of its kind in the world.
