The library will be closed on Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

The children’s room will be closed Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24 for the installation of new signs and decorative artwork. Programs for children and teens that have been scheduled for those dates will not be cancelled. Children below high school age who are not accompanied by a responsible adult cannot be accommodated in the adult services department during the two days. Parents should make other arrangements for children who are accustomed to coming to the library during after school hours.

50th Anniversary Retrospective Film Series

The Springfield Free Public Library will continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its opening at its current location with a screening of the mockumentary comedy, Take the Money and Run at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 28.

Starring Woody Allen and Janet Margolin and featuring Louise Lasser in a small role, Take the Money and Run represents Allen’s first film outing as writer, director and actor. In the film, Allen stars as an inept bank robber who fails at pretty much everything he does.
